Property Tax Rates: The Council continues the post-election process of figuring out property tax rates for next year.
Honorary Streets: There’s a request from several Councilors to make part of Chadwick Street an honorary Thomas P. White Way in honor of the former Worcester City Councilor and state senator. This will go to the Public Works Committee.
Boards and Commissions: The Council will be electing two new members to the Library Board. The Manager has appointed Stuart Kirshner to the Conservation Commission and Victor Rivera to the Worcester Arts Council. The Council will decide whether to approve the Manager’s nomination of Stephen Hill to the Community Development Advisory Committee.
Selling The Cage to Worcester Common Ground: The Council will vote whether to sell the basketball court on Piedmont Street (“The Cage”) to the neighborhood’s community development corporation.
Adding Conservation Land: The Council will vote to transfer Coes Pond, Coes Reservoir, and the foreclosed tax title property at 0 Roosevelt Avenue to the Conservation Commission for environmental preservation purposes.
Free Trash: Councilor Russell wants a report on what it would look like if the city didn’t charge people for trash disposal based on the amount of trash they threw away.
Zoning: The Council will vote whether to approve the proposal to rezone the Colony Retirement Homes property at 485 Grove Street and five nearby properties on Chadwick Street and Grove Street to 3-story business from a mix of business and residential.
Accessory Dwelling Units: The Council will vote whether to approve a new accessory dwelling unit (in-law apartment) ordinance, intended to make it easier to build them. These will be allowed in essentially all zones, the occupants do not need to be related to the owner, and an ADU will not require additional parking spots.
